The Master of Engineering Science (Mechanical) provides the foundations that will underpin ongoing professional development, preparing you for further study or a career in an engineering-related field or in areas where these skills and knowledge are required.
Mechanical engineering is concerned with the design, construction and operation of machinery.
It applies the principles of physics, materials science and mathematics to designing, developing, researching, evaluating, manufacturing, installing, testing, operating, maintaining and managing mechanical systems.
As a discipline, mechanical engineering is applied in a variety of areas, including:
Mining, minerals processing, manufacturing, the oil and gas industry, the automotive, aviation and shipbuilding industries, electrical power generation and distribution, road and rail transport, defence, agriculture, fishing and food processing
Flinders engineering staff's excellent links with industry partners on research and development projects mean many work placement opportunities are available.
The program includes eleven core topics, including a design project and a research project.
