There is substantial government and industry investment in space science technology that highlights this growing gap in skills, both in Australia and internationally.
Graduates will need critical skills in space science and technology, connecting the upstream space (build/launch) and downstream (application of space-related products and services) industries.
This degree encompasses the space industry and space agency partnerships with government and industry.
These include connections with Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Electro Optic Systems, Department of Defense, Geo-science Australia and space agencies around the world such as:
USA (NASA), Japan, (JAXA), Europe (ESA) and Germany(DLR) Additional facilities at RMIT include the SPACE Research Center and the Sir Lawrence Wackett Center.
There is no degree quite like this one in Australia. It leads the way in both space science and engineering research. It provides a unique mix of physics, engineering, Geo-spatial science, mathematics, and specialized space studies.
During your studies, you'll have the opportunity to undertake a 12-week industry placement so you can immerse yourself in the world of space. These placements are run through Boeing, Geoplex and Nova Systems.
Industry connections
The School of Science has close ties with industry through the Program Advisory Committee (PAC) and through a range of consulting and research projects.
These are undertaken by staff. Feedback from PAC has been important to informing the design of this degree.
PAC provides valuable input and is a major driver for change in the school’s qualifications.
This is especially true in relation to industry trends and future graduate capabilities, the use of state-of-the-art equipment and support for the introduction of work-integrated learning (WIL) and global engagement.
