Bachelor of Data Science

Data science is driving economic growth, public policy and corporate strategy all over the world, and the ability to manage and interpret data is rapidly becoming an essential skill in many organizations and industries. 

The Bachelor of Data Science has been designed to prepare you for a career in this emerging and expansive field.

As a student of this degree, you will build a practical understanding of recent developments in computer science, information technology and statistics, and be able to apply relevant mathematical and statistical knowledge and methods to new and ongoing problems.

You will develop your ability to analyze and manage large amounts of data from various sources and evaluate their insights and solutions. 

In addition to strengthened problem solving skills, you'll also learn to effectively communicate your work to technical- and non-technical audiences, work independently or as a team, and factor in relevant standards, ethical and legal considerations to your projects.

As a graduate, you will have the skills, knowledge and industry connections to build a varied and sustainable career in public and private sectors.

In this degree, you will be doing specific subjects that focus on work-integrated learning (WIL). You will be assessed on professional work in a work place setting (real or simulated) and receive feedback from those involved in your industry.

Case Studies in Data Science 1 and Case Studies in Data Science 2 include a work integrated learning experience where you are assessed in a simulated workplace context, and receive feedback from industry.

Science Project 1 and Science Project are capstone subjects that have been designed to provide you with hands-on experience. 

Your learning activities here will be based on applying your data science knowledge to plan and execute a substantial research-based or industry-sponsored project.

Note: You will not need to pay any application fee but some of African countries will need to deposit of AU$100 application fee.

Academic background and requirement

You must have successfully completed an Australian Year 12 or an equivalent senior secondary school qualification with a minimum average of 65%

Equivalent qualifications may also include completion of the RMIT Foundation Studies program or a recognised post secondary diploma in the relevant discipline with the required grades.

Prerequisites:

Higher Mathematics: or

VCE Units 3 and 4 in Mathematics (any), with a study score of at least 20.
