Biomedical Engineering is a multi-disciplinary field that enables engineers to combine engineering principles with biological and medical sciences. 

Students will study areas related to mechanical, electrical, artificial intelligence (e.g. evolutionary computation, neural network, fuzzy logic, machine learning) and aspects of modern biomedical systems. 

The typical first-year provides sound fundamentals in mathematics, statistics, physics, chemistry, computing, engineering science and communication, mechanics, materials and fluids. 

Your degree includes a 12-week hands-on industry placement at the UoW. 

You may gain credit for relevant work experience, either in Australia or overseas, by participating in the Professional Options Program.

The lecturers encourage you to approach them and get involved in industry projects and learning opportunities so you get the most out of your university education.

The engineering students are trained through practical learning experiences, including:

The course covers Anatomy and Physiology, Biomedical Instrumentation and Design, Biomedical Physics, Sensors and Actuators, and the Biomechanical Basis for Human Movement.

It also delves into the Mechanical Design of Biomedical Devices, Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering, Artificial Organs and Implants, Ethics and Practices, among other areas.

Applicants must have achieved the required score in a qualification equivalent to completing 13 years of schooling in Australia.

To succeed in your chosen course, it is assumed you have completed relevant subjects in your senior high school studies or other relevant qualifications. 

This is particularly important for degrees with a strong basis in Mathematics or Science.
