Explore advanced level topics in economics and research an area of your interest with the Economics specialization in the Master of Business.

If you're doing postgraduate study in economics, you'll work with your peers and with academic staff who have been involved in applied research projects for government agencies around the world and international agencies like the IMF. 

The AUT School of Economics conducts research in a range of areas, including the effects of international trading arrangements, optimal regulation of labor and other markets, and the use of big data in social programmes.

Class sizes are small and each student has an individual academic supervisor. 

Many of AUT's postgraduate economics students also work part-time as tutors or research assistants. 

As part of your studies you learn how to use sophisticated statistical software to analyze business, financial or social data – skills highly valued by many employers.

What you study

To graduate with a Master of Business, you must successfully complete 180 points from:

• Specialization courses
• Research methods course(s)
• A thesis (90 points) or dissertation (60 points)

Once you’ve completed the coursework component of your programme, you must complete a postgraduate research proposal before starting your thesis or dissertation. 

Once approved, your faculty will enroll you into the thesis or dissertation.

• Certified copy of your birth certificate or passport
• Certified copy of marriage certificate (If required)
• Official academic transcripts
• English Language Proficiency (If Available)
• CV/Relevant work/research experience (If required)
• A copy of the document(s) in the original language/and official English translation

Completed one of the following or equivalent with a B (69.50-74.49%) grade average or higher in courses at level 7 or above:

• Bachelor of Business OR
• Graduate Diploma in Business

Students who studied level 7 business courses as part of a degree different than stated above may also meet the entry requirements.

Admission to the Master of Business is subject to approval by the dean (or representative).
