Applicants who lack the specific English admission requirements may still gain admission to the program with the understanding that they will successfully complete ENGL 66 Essential English course in the first year of their program. 

This course must be completed to advance beyond 30 program credits.

The Academic English program allows students to build their English language skills and earn credits that can be used to transfer into a Selkirk College diploma or university transfer program. 

No minimum TOEFL or IELTS score is needed for entry into the English Language Program.

Business English (advanced)

Includes 1-3 approved college classes

Each ELP level takes approximately 4 months. (1 semester) to complete.

Each semester has 2 modules (7-8 weeks)


Academic background and requirement

  • Have graduated from a BC Senior Secondary School or equivalent, or
  • Be 19 years of age or over at the time of application, or
  • Be under 19 years of age but have a written recommendation from your Secondary School Principal
  • English Studies 12 or equivalent with a minimum of 60% or higher required.
  • Any Math 11 with a minimum of 60%. Note that students who may pursue a university degree in Business should complete a pre-calculus course.
  • Students who enter the Business Administration diploma program with a minimum grade of 73% in Accounting 12 (taken in British Columbia three years prior to starting the program) may receive credit for COMM 240.

Note: First-time applicants may be required to take the College Readiness Tool (CRT).
