You’ll develop technical skills through a core specialisation, which will form the basis of your career. Choose from either chemical engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, mechatronic engineering or software engineering.
You’ll also have the option to complement your engineering specialisation with a major or minor in one of the new and emerging areas of engineering. Our broad range of majors allows you to further tailor your studies to match your career aspirations and deep dive into your interests.

Bioprocess engineers create processes and products that support the development of a healthy and sustainable world. Bioprocess engineering combines the core principles of chemical engineering and biology for scalable production of medicines, such as vaccines during pandemics, foods, and beverages.
The same principles are applied to treating wastewater and converting waste streams into valuable products, such as biofuels or biodegradable plastics. This involves engineering living cells to produce desirable products and designing and optimising processes to manufacture bioproducts at scale to benefit society.
To study this major, you'll have to choose an engineering specialisation first. The bioprocess engineering major is available to study within the chemical engineering specialisation.
Queensland Year 12 (or equivalent) General English subject (Units 3 & 4, C); Mathematical Methods (Units 3 & 4, C); and one of Chemistry or Physics (Units 3 & 4, C).
Both Chemistry and Physics are recommended subjects. Specialist Mathematics (Units 3 & 4, C) is also a recommended subject. Students studying Specialist Mathematics and both Physics and Chemistry will have increased flexibility in their studies.

If you meet all the academic entry requirements for your preferred UQ program, but need help to meet the English language requirements, you may be eligible for a package offer.

When you apply for your UQ program, indicate that you want to apply for a package offer. Don't apply directly to ICTE.
You still need to provide evidence of your current English language ability (e.g. IELTS or another recognised test). We will assess your skills and place you in the best English course for your level.

English for Academic Purposes (EAP) has three entry points – IELTS 5.0, 5.5 or 6.0.
Bridging English (BE): Minimum entry is IELTS 5.0 (or recognised equivalent) for most UQ programs, with some UQ programs requiring a higher level.
