Advanced Diploma - Applied Music (Bass)

Develop your skills in musicianship, performance, songwriting and composing, producing, and more, through Mohawk College’s performance-based 3-year Applied Music Program.

Students have the choice to focus their studies in either the Classical or Contemporary stream, in their choice of instruments/vocal. 

Students who apply to the Applied Music Program will have to complete an audition, a theory, and ear training test, and an interview.

  • Performance opportunities in McIntyre Performing Arts Centre at Fennell Campus in the community and for various recording projects.

  • Develop your composing and music production skills, using the latest music technology, through collaborations within the department and with Animation, TV Production, Radio, and Journalism students.

  • Hands-on experience through an internship program and several community partners.
  • Take advantage of Partnership agreements to further your education with McMaster University and Berklee College of Music.
  • Access to Berklee’s Global Network, including workshops and sessions offered by Berklee for their Global Partners.

GAS-English for Academic Purposes 2023-24 (Domestic & International) - 478

This program is not for absolute beginners nor for students whose first language is English.

Learn and gain confidence in academic English language skills in a Canadian college environment. Complete Semester 3 to meet Language Proficiency Requirements for post-secondary college programs.

Students require a Secondary School diploma or at least 10 years of education in their first language.

Students are placed into a semester by language skill level.

  • You can take a placement test at the Mohawk College Testing Centre
  • OR You can provide official language scores (IELTS, TOEFL, etc.). Scores must be official and may not be more than one year old.

You may also have an interview to finalize your placement. Students are usually placed according to the lowest skill to support their success.

Semester 1: IELTS 3.5, no band below 3, or equivalent.

Semester 2: IELTS 4.5, no band below 4, or equivalent OR successful completion of Semester 1

Semester 3: IELTS 5.5, no band below 5, or equivalent OR successful completion of at least two Semester 2 courses.

 

Start Dates: January, March, May, July, September and November.

Levels: Through 8. Levels are 7 weeks in length. Upon successful completion, you advance to the next level.

Length of Study: On average, you will study for 4-6 months.

Academic background and requirement

  • OSSD or equivalent including:
    • Grade 12 English, C or U or equivalent
    • Background in Music
  • Audition on your instrument or voice, ear-training test, theory exam, and a meeting with music faculty.
  • Applicant acceptance will be based on ability and talent in a principal instrument or voice
  • Students will be required to purchase a laptop (please see Laptop Requirements under Additional Information)

Options are available for mature applicants.

  • Mature applicants aged 19 and over
  • Applicants who are not currently in secondary school
