Bachelor of Mathematics - Applied Mathematics

The study applied mathematics and learn how advanced mathematical methods are used to develop practical solutions to various real-world problems.

Develop your critical thinking skills and learn advanced mathematical techniques for approaching problems logically, analytically and creatively.

At the University of Queensland, you'll build foundational knowledge in core topics such as applied mathematical analysis, mathematical modelling and numerical methods used in computer programming.

You'll then have the opportunity to apply your expertise in areas of interest such as natural resources and environmental modelling or biological science.

You may also choose to combine your major with a minor in bioinformatics, computational science, computer science, physics or statistics.

This major will prepare you for various career opportunities in sectors such as financial services, engineering, technology and sciences.

Academic background and requirement

Prerequisites:

Queensland Year 12 (or equivalent) General English subject (Units 3 & 4, C); Mathematical Methods (Units 3 & 4, C).
Specialist Mathematics (Units 3 & 4, C) is recommended. Students studying Specialist Mathematics will have increased flexibility in their studies.

 

GPA

India: All India Senior School Certificate (CBSE): 90%

The minimum required GPA belongs to Canada: Ontario Secondary School Diploma: 88%

 

Foundation Program:

You will study five courses (subjects) for the entire duration of the Foundation Program, usually two core courses and three elective courses.

For students wishing to progress to undergraduate degrees in the Faculty of Science:
