Bachelor of Arts - Computer Science

From virtual reality and artificial intelligence to robotics, network databases and vision systems, Computer Science plays a big part in solving some of the world's greatest challenges. 

In this program at York, you will blend foundational knowledge and technical skills to explore intriguing topics such as computer systems that mimic human vision or mine data for useful information. 

You will also learn about the methodologies that lead to efficient, accurate computation. 

In the BA degree, liberal arts complement your studies in computer science.

The Computer Science program will equip you with both foundational knowledge and applied skills, using a blend of hardware and software courses including extensive lab work. 

You will learn the methodologies that lead to efficient and accurate software development, and you can choose from a wide range of application areas, including machine learning, robotics, graphics, user interface design and data mining.

In the BA, you can complement your studies with courses from the Liberal Arts such as humanities, social sciences, history, philosophy and more – fields that help you understand human social and creative endeavours and the potential impact of computing.

  • Students who successfully complete Level AP5 may apply to the York University English Language Institute’s YUBridge Program, where they can take a class for academic credit while completing the remainder of their language proficiency requirements to be admitted to York.
  • Levels AP6-AP9 focus on the language, critical thinking and study skills required to be a successful student in a university or college setting where English is the language of instruction.
  • Students who successfully complete Level AP6 are eligible to apply for Conditional Admission* to York University. Students with conditional acceptance are also eligible to apply to the Pre-Destination York Program.
