Overview

Bachelor of Arts - Criminology

Get the tools essential to understanding the complexities of criminal justice issues and how they are shaped by larger social, political, economic, cultural, and historical contexts. 

With a uniquely interdisciplinary approach, you’ll get a strong foundation in the field of criminology and become a more engaged citizen.

The professors at York have diverse backgrounds. 

You’ll benefit from teaching that draws on the connections between criminology and fields such as gender and cultural studies, immigration, global and transnational studies, surveillance, and business and finance.

Hands-on experiences

  • Learn from guest lecturers from the criminal justice system, individuals on parole who talk about their prison experience, and those who discuss their interactions with law enforcement.
  • Participate in field trips to relevant destinations, such as a correctional institution.
  • Attend job fairs featuring professionals from the criminology field.

  • Levels AP1-AP5 focus on helping build a solid foundation of English proficiency in all four language skills: Reading, writing, listening and speaking.
  • Students who successfully complete Level AP5 may apply to the York University English Language Institute’s YUBridge Program, where they can take a class for academic credit while completing the remainder of their language proficiency requirements to be admitted to York.
  • Levels AP6-AP9 focus on the language, critical thinking and study skills required to be a successful student in a university or college setting where English is the language of instruction.
  • Students who successfully complete Level AP6 are eligible to apply for Conditional Admission* to York University. Students with conditional acceptance are also eligible to apply to the Pre-Destination York Program.
