Overview

Bachelor of Arts - Communications / Communications

As a Communications student at York, you’ll focus on understanding communication through the relationships between media, culture, language and technology.

These courses are organized into three areas of concentration:

1.  Communication, Culture & Society

Uncover the cross-cultural and sociological dimensions of communication.

For example, Introduction to Communication Studies explores the ways communication is intertwined with our lives, from technology and culture to politics, media and the environment.

2.  Organizations & Communication

Learn how media and communications organizations operate, and how communication is used as a tool for organizing communities, societies and economies.

Courses such as Social Media, Marketing and Advertising explore the hidden lives of data, the human right to privacy, and the mechanics of online marketing and advertising.

3.  Technology & Communication

Get into the mechanics of communication.

Courses such as Information & Technology study the use and development of communication technologies, their influence on societies, and how policy and regulatory mechanisms can affect them.

Hands-On Experiences

  • Create digital storytelling projects, produce podcast series, make documentaries and build impromptu communication networks in your courses.
