A degree in international studies at RMIT will guide you toward a multitude of careers across the globe.
If you’re passionate about international affairs and cultural diversity, this course will help prepare you for a versatile and imaginative future.
During your studies, you will build a strong understanding of intercultural, social and political issues and how to address them.
You will also have the opportunity to apply your learning in a two-month international internship and a 7000-word independent research project.
As part of your studies, you will undertake a professional internship with an international organisation in Australia or overseas.
This stream is designed to develop your advanced communication skills and bilingualism, preparing you for an international career in language-related fields.
You’ll learn to understand the nature and politics of language and build excellent written and verbal communication skills in a language other than English (choose from Chinese, French, Japanese or Spanish).
You will also gain social and cultural knowledge of the countries where the target language is spoken, a greater appreciation for other peoples and cultures in general, as well as enhanced intercultural competence.
Alternatively, you can choose not to specialise and study international studies as a general subject.
In this option, you will build your knowledge of global history and political processes, the international political economy, human mobility, global political and social theory, risk and global governance, and international human rights and law.
In all streams, you will be trained in cross-cultural workplace practices, offered international study exchange opportunities, and be able to undertake an international internship in connection with the target language and/or in the languages field.
