Bachelor of Nursing

Nursing is the science of professional caring and offers opportunities to promote and restore health, prevent illness and alleviate suffering. 

With this degree at Griffith University, you will develop key skills for excellent nursing care.

You will develop your skills through clinical placements across the health sector and have opportunities to undertake rural, remote and overseas placements.

The Bachelor of Nursing includes multiple pathways. 

The degree requirements of each pathway are different, and you will need to follow the requirements for your pathway to ensure your eligibility to graduate.

The standard program is available in Trimester 1 only

The Trimester 1 and Trimester 2 intakes are only available to students with one of the following qualifications:

  • Diploma of Health Care (from Griffith College)
  • Diploma of Nursing from an accredited Australian Education Provider and unconditional registration (without restrictions) as an Enrolled Nurse (Division 2), General with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). Note that registration under the AHPRA Pandemic Response Sub Register is not accepted.
  • Internationally Qualified Nurses

Honours is available through an additional year of study.

Work-integrated learning

Work-integrated learning activities (professional placements) integrate theoretical learning with its application in the workplace. 

The inclusion of work-integrated learning activities in the degree program demonstrates Griffith's commitment to preparing its graduates for success in their working life.

In this program, you will spend time 880 hours over 22 weeks in the work/professional environment undertaking placements at various locations. 

Placements may be outside of the Brisbane metropolitan/Gold Coast area, including northern New South Wales and (by negotiation) interstate or overseas. 

Interstate/overseas placements are only permitted in the final clinical course in Year 3.

Academic background and requirement

Completion of secondary school comparable to Australian Year 12 or equivalent academic achievement.

Advanced standing pathways

Trimester 1 and 2 intakes: Applicants for the Advanced standing pathways must:

  • Hold a Diploma of Health Care from Griffith College
  • OR hold a Diploma of Nursing from an accredited Australian Education Provider and unconditional registration (without restrictions) as an Enrolled Nurse (Division 2) General with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). Note that registration under the AHPRA Pandemic Response Sub Register is not accepted. (Diploma of Nursing pathway)
  • OR are Internationally Qualified Nurses and provide documentary evidence with their application.

 

China:

Qualification: GaoKao: Successful completion of the National College Entrance Examination (Gao Kao) with a minimum of 63% of the overall maximum score.

Qualification: Peoples Republic of China Senior Middle School Graduation Certificate

A grade average of 91 in the final year results OR successful completion of a recognised pre-tertiary or foundation program OR successful completion of one year of study at a recognised tertiary or higher education institution is required in addition to the completion of High School studies.

India:

All India Senior School Certificate or Comparable Qualification (awarded by CBSE or CISCE): An overall grade average of 65% in the best four academic subjects

Iran:

Qualification: Iranian High School Diploma (before 2019): Grade average of 17.7 in the final year results

Qualification: Iran Pre-University Certificate or Iranian High School Diploma from 2019: Grade average of 12.3 in the last year's results
