Of all the feedback received at Dalhousie university in the Department of English, students consistently report that they are attracted to Dalhousie’s Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy programs in English Literature because of the research and teaching strength of its faculty combined with the intimacy and collegiality of the Department.
The graduate programs are small and select: the university takes in about 15 MA students per year, and only about four new doctoral students. There are up to 30 current graduate students with workspace in the Department in any one year.
The MA in English is designed to be completed in one calendar year (September to August).

This an upper-intermediate course at the B2 level in English for Academic Purposes (EAP), helping develop students’ is listening, speaking, reading, writing, research and academic skills in preparation for study at university.

If you take the placement test and your score is too low to enter our lowest-level course (EAP Foundations 1), we will make arrangements for you to study at another language school in Halifax. The Dalhousie University EAP Program does not offer an A1 level course. This doesn’t affect very many students; fewer than 10 students per year find themselves in this situation.
