Overview

Master of Arts - Philosophy

The Master of Arts (MA) at Dalhousie university  Program in Philosophy is for students enrolled in the four-year Canadian honours BA in philosophy or the equivalent. Students will traditionally take three classes during each of the fall and winter terms, and write a thesis during the summer term following classes.

The average completion time for the degree is approximately 13 months.

This Department’s graduate programs are small and selective. They typically have eight to ten MA students and six to eight PhD students. Graduate students receive individual attention, and courses of study can be developed to suit individual interests.

The atmosphere is unusually friendly, stimulating, and supportive.

  • develop a range of listening skills and strategies:
  • participate in various speaking situations in the academic context;

Low Scores

If you take the placement test and your score is too low to enter our lowest-level course (EAP Foundations 1), we will make arrangements for you to study at another language school in Halifax. The Dalhousie University EAP Program does not offer an A1 level course. This doesn’t affect very many students; fewer than 10 students per year find themselves in this situation.
