This Master of Teaching Primary Education at UTS provides students with a master's qualification to teach in NSW primary schools.
Students who have both the required undergraduate degree and specialisation subjects can complete the course in two years.
The core subjects provide research-based studies of educational theory and practice as a basis for professional decision-making in the primary school context.
They cover inclusive education, digital learning, working with and for Indigenous Australians, and the use of educational data for research and evaluation.
The Key Learning Areas provide content knowledge and teaching methods in the areas of English, Mathematics, Creative Arts, Human Society and its Environment (HSIE), Science and Technology (STEM) and Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE).
The professional experience component includes both campus-based and field-based experiences.
This course is a NSW primary school teaching preparation course and adheres to the subject content knowledge prerequisites as stipulated by the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA).
It is suitable for students about to graduate with a bachelor's degree and for graduates who are changing careers and want a teaching qualification.
It includes an intensive professional experience program where students spend 60 days in practical experience teaching, and offers extensive, structured and closely supported experiences of primary school teaching in different settings.

Applicants must have completed a UTS-recognised bachelor's degree, or an equivalent or higher qualification, or submitted other evidence of general and professional qualifications demonstrating potential to pursue graduate studies.
Applicants need to be able to demonstrate a record of studies in their undergraduate or postgraduate study that satisfies the prerequisite requirements from the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA).
The minimum requirement is at least one year of full-time equivalent study (normally 8 units of study) that is relevant to one or more Key Learning Areas of the primary school curriculum.
All applicants must submit a personal statement outlining their motivation and suitability for teaching as outlined by the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) and the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL), the external accrediting body for this course.
The personal statement is used to outline the applicant’s interest in and understanding of the course.
Students who have studied overseas may be required to meet additional requirements set by the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) to qualify as teachers in NSW.
