Master of Music

The Master of Music (M.Mus.) degree program is a two-year, full-time program of applied and academic study. 

The program offers students the opportunity to pursue graduate study in performance or composition, and to join a dynamic community of experienced and active professional musicians and scholars. 

In addition to required coursework, the M.Mus. involves master classes and lectures with visiting artists and numerous performance/recording and research opportunities on-campus and in the larger community of Lethbridge, culminating in a Thesis Project.

Language pathway (conditional offer) is available

Highly-qualified applicants who do not meet the minimum English Language Proficiency (ELP) requirement may be issued a conditional Offer of Admission.


Conditional admission allows applicants to apply for a study permit (if necessary) and begin their studies in the University's English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program.


Applicants admitted via the Conditional English Proficiency Admission route may be permitted to begin their studies provided that the ELP requirement is met by another approved means by August 1 for the fall term, November 15 for the spring term, or April 15 for the summer term.


To be considered for Conditional English Proficiency Admission (ELP), the applicant must:

  1. meet the academic requirements of the desired program;
  2. have a minimum score of 6.0 in each band of the IELTS test; or a minimum overall score of 80 on the iBT TOEFL, (with minimum scores of 16 in each of Listening, Reading, and Speaking, and a minimum score of 18 in Writing), IELTS and iBT TOEFL test must be written within two years of application to the University of Lethbridge; and
  3. be recommended for Conditional English Proficiency Admission by the appropriate graduate Program Committee.

Academic background and requirement

Hold a baccalaureate degree (i.e. an undergraduate degree) in a related discipline from a recognized degree-granting institution Have a minimum grade point average of 3.00 (based on 4.00 scale) on the last 20 graded university-level term courses OR calculated on the most recently completed master’s degree if the applicant is applying for another master’s degree
