Master of Financial Economics

The Master of Financial Economics is an elite, interdisciplinary degree preparing graduates for a career requiring advanced analytical skills and drawing on an advanced knowledge of finance and economics. 

The program not only teaches students how to apply well known models but also equips them with an understanding of the technical foundations of those models. 

These skills are highly marketable because they allow for the design and empirical testing of new financial instruments and models in new market environments.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Utilize standard financial models to analyze and price financial assets.
  2. Utilize their understanding of the economic foundations of financial assets as claims on resources in various market and corporate settings to design financial instruments and strategies.
  3. Use time series statistics and financial econometrics to evaluate financial economic models.
  4. Justify and communicate the necessary management skills for dealing with organizations, teams and policy issues, so as to be able to work independently and collaboratively to collect, process, interpret and communicate the outcomes of financial economic problems; and,
  5. Demonstrate the skills necessary to critically engage with and evaluate financial economic problems

ANU College programs deliver pathways to ANU designed to help you successfully transition to undergraduate or postgraduate study. 

Academic English Preparation
Academic English Preparation (AEP) is a 10-week program focused on English reading, writing, listening and speaking skills. 

AEP is designed to equip international students with skills and knowledge needed to live and work in Australia, and to successfully transition to other courses at ANUC. 

To enrol in AEP, you must have an IELTS of 5.0 (minimum 4.5 in each band) or an overall TOEFL IBT of 40 with a minimum of 12 in writing. 

Once enrolled, you must achieve a score of 60 per cent or more to successfully complete AEP. No additional IELTS is required to progress to Foundation Studies or ANU Access. 
ANU Access
ANU Access is a 10-week intensive program with a strong focus on academic English. 

To be eligible for ANU Access, you must have an overall IELTS of 6.0 (with no band less than 5.5) or an overall TOEFL IBT of 68 with a minimum of 18 in writing

A range of other English language tests are also accepted. Once you successfully complete the program you can enter your degree at ANU.


Academic background and requirement

Applicants must present a Bachelor degree or international equivalent in a cognate discipline with a minimum GPA of 5.0/7.0
