Mechanical engineering involves the analysis, understanding, design and manufacture of components, devices and machines, often together with heat and fluid flows, that are integrated to create engineering systems.
In this major at Curtin University, you will study intermediate and advanced topics that will permit entry to a career in contemporary mechanical engineering and its future development.
The curriculum allows you to understand how mechanical engineering combines with the other major engineering disciplines to produce products and systems.
During the course, you will gain at least 12 weeks of exposure to engineering professional practice and keep a formal log book to record your experience.
During your final-year project, you will have the opportunity to apply advanced knowledge and technologies to research and design open-ended major mechanical-engineering challenges.
Professional practice can comprise a combination of real-world experiences.
Examples include paid and voluntary work placements, university-based experience in industrial projects, attending extra-curricular technical lectures and workshops, and industry site visit in Australia and/or overseas.
This major sits within the Master of Professional Engineering degree. Therefore, you will apply for the Master of Professional Engineering to apply for this major.
The course is not suitable for graduates of a four-year undergraduate degree with Engineers Australia accreditation in the same discipline.
