This major at Curtin university covers civil engineering materials, analysis and design principles, numerical methods, Geotechnical principles and foundation, water resources engineering and management, and structural health monitoring.
It includes risk analysis and management, construction cost and project management, and environmental engineering management.
The laboratory facilities allow you to test different materials, structures' strengths, and other properties.
These include testing construction materials such as concrete, steel, soil and rocks and examining structural behaviour under static and dynamic loading in earthquake engineering and pavement/Geo-technology.
During the course, you will gain at least 12 weeks of exposure to engineering professional practice and keep a formal log book to record your experience.
Professional practice can comprise a combination of real-world experiences.
Examples include paid and voluntary work placements, university-based experience in industrial projects, attending extra-curricular technical lectures and workshops, and industry site visit in Australia and/or overseas.
In your final year, you will complete a major research or design project that will draw upon and integrate the knowledge and skills you attained through the course.
This major sits within the Master of Professional Engineering degree. Therefore, you will apply for the Master of Professional Engineering to apply for this major.
The course is not suitable for graduates of a four-year undergraduate degree, with Engineers Australia accreditation in the same discipline.
