Rapid advances in electronic communication, the ‘internet of things', and renewable energy technologies offer abundant career opportunities in embedded systems engineering.
Our world is characterised by the ever-increasing number of intelligent devices with embedded computers.
Embedded systems are computers with specialised input or output devices that may or may not be programmed by the end-user.
In this major at Curtin University, you will study intermediate and advanced topics in embedded systems, such as embedded systems in field-programmable gate arrays and embedded software engineering.
During the course, you will gain at least 12 weeks of exposure to engineering professional practice and keep a formal log book to record your experience.
You will further investigate and apply emergent technologies in embedded systems during your final-year project.
Professional practice can comprise a combination of real-world experiences.
Examples include paid and voluntary work placements, university-based experience in industrial projects, attending extra-curricular technical lectures and workshops, and industry site visit in Australia and/or overseas.

The course is not suitable for graduates of a four-year undergraduate degree, with Engineers Australia accreditation in the same discipline.

Applicants require a 4-year Engineering degree from a recognised institution in the same discipline of study.
Students who don’t meet the entry requirements but have completed the Graduate Diploma in Professional Engineering degree at Curtin will be considered to have met the above course requirement.
