This degree provides you with a sound knowledge of the political, behavioural and social sciences, and equips you with the skills to work in a range of fields in social work and human services.
It has been developed around four major areas of study: social work theory; social work practice and skills; social policy; and social research.
You will gain practical experience as part of the degree’s field education placement component.
This is a valuable learning opportunity where you will build industry networks and further enhance vital hands-on, practical skills necessary to succeed in your future social work career.
Students who have completed a TAFE Diploma in Community Services are eligible for 18 units of credit.
Students who have completed a TAFE Advanced Diploma in Community Services are eligible for 36 units of credit.
Learn from industry experts and award-winning researchers, gain practical experience in the on-campus Social Work and Human Services Studio, and build workplace networks during field education placements.
In the custom-built studios, you will work alongside field practitioners and academic staff in simulated, real-life situations. Using recording equipment and cameras, you can review your work and learn from your experiences. Third and fourth-year work placements will provide valuable real-world experience, you will experience what it’s like to work in local, rural and international settings.
You will also gain valuable professional experience when you complete 1,000 hours of work placements during your third and fourth years.

If you do not meet the English language entry requirements, you can successful completion of the Centre for the English Language at the University of South Australia (CELUSA) Academic English Program.
If they successfully complete the AE program at an appropriate level, students applying to these institutions will not need to take IELTS or any other English language test.
Depending on their English level upon commencement of the AE program and their required IELTS score for further studies, students will study for between 10 and 40 weeks.

You must have successfully completed an Australian Year 12 program or an equivalent program in your home country or a recognised Pathway or Foundation Studies Program.
If you are an international student studying Year 12 in Australia you need to apply via the South Australian Tertiary Admissions Centre (SATAC).

Applicants are required to meet one of the following criteria with a competitive result and demonstrate that they fulfil any prerequisite requirements and essential requirements for admission:
Recent secondary education
Meet any prerequisite requirements with a minimum grade of C- or equivalent.
AND
Applicants who have not achieved the Selection Rank required for automatic selection may be selected for any remaining places based on the grades of their year 12 subjects.
