Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Electrical and Mechatronic)

In your first year, you will develop a strong, general foundation in engineering, including computer programming, applied mathematics and physics. 

As you advance in your studies, you will learn about:

  • analog electronics
  • digital electronics
  • mechanics
  • electromechanical system design
  • computer programming
  • computer networking
  • embedded systems
  • signal processing control
  • industrial actuation and automation
  • mobile robotics
  • machine learning and vision, and
  • systems engineering.

UniSA STEM Professional Practice Program allows you to apply the skills and knowledge you've acquired throughout your degree in real-world settings.

At least half of your honours year will involve a major project

Under the guidance of academic engineering staff, you will use the latest design tools to develop an innovative product for a client or to progress research in an associated area.

You’ll work alongside other engineering students on a major industry project in your final year. 

You may also be eligible for a full semester industry internship.

During your studies, you’ll have access to purpose-built engineering spaces equipped with industry-standard software and technology, including the following:

  • power system laboratory
  • digital electronics laboratory
  • electronics innovation laboratory
  • mechatronics and robotics laboratory, and
  • factory of the future laboratory.

Language pathway (conditional offer) is available

Successful completion of the Centre for English Language at the University of South Australia (CELUSA) Academic English Program: Level 4 (AE4)

 

If you do not meet the English language entry requirements, you can successful completion of the Centre for the English Language at the University of South Australia (CELUSA) Academic English Program. 

 
If they successfully complete the AE program at an appropriate level, students applying to these institutions will not need to take IELTS or any other English language test. 

Depending on their English level upon commencement of the AE program and their required IELTS score for further studies, students will study for between 10 and 40 weeks.

You must have successfully completed an Australian Year 12 program or an equivalent program in your home country or a recognised Pathway or Foundation Studies Program.

If you are an international student studying Year 12 in Australia, you need to apply via the South Australian Tertiary Admissions Centre (SATAC).

Successful completion of the Pre-University Certificate OR High School Diploma

 

Applicants are required to meet one of the following criteria with a competitive result and demonstrate that they fulfil any prerequisite requirements and essential requirements for admission:

 

Recent secondary education
Meet any prerequisite requirements with a minimum grade of C- or equivalent
AND

  • Qualify for the South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE), and achieve a competitive Selection Rank (ATAR), or
  • Complete secondary qualifications equivalent to SACE, or
  • Complete the International Baccalaureate Diploma with a minimum score of 24 points

Applicants who have not achieved the Selection Rank required for automatic selection may be selected for any remaining places based on the grades of their year 12 subjects.

Higher education study

  • Complete or partly complete a recognised higher education program at a recognised higher education institution, or
  • Complete at least four Open Universities Australia (OUA) courses at the undergraduate level or above

OR
Vocational Education and Training (VET)

  • Complete an award from a registered training organisation at Certificate IV or above

Work and life experience

  • Qualify for Special Entry, or
  • Complete a UniSA Foundation Studies program or equivalent, or
  • Hold completed secondary qualifications equivalent to SACE obtained more than 2 years in the past
