Overview

Bachelor of Interior Design (Honours)

The mission of the Bachelor of Interior Design (Honours) program at Conestoga College is to provide students with the theoretical, practical and technical skills that reflect the profession of Interior Design.

Through a comprehensive curriculum delivered by an interdisciplinary faculty, this program will prepare students to apply an integrated approach to interior design solutions for the built environment and its occupants.

It will prepare students for the demand to meet technological changes and currency relating to sustainability, universal design, and health and safety.

This Bachelor of Interior Design degree, delivered at the honours level, provides professional training in developing creative design solutions for interior spaces (residential, corporate/commercial, retail, institutional, healthcare, hospitality/entertainment, exposition) through project-based learning.

The range of functional and aesthetic components that allow spaces in the built environment to be safely and comfortably inhabited are studied.

The relationship between occupants and their physical environment is analyzed through the consideration of ergonomics, illumination, acoustics, finishes, safety and all aspects of space programming.

Interior design has evolved to be as much science as art.

Two (2) paid co-op work term opportunities provide students with relevant experience that will complement their academic studies.

The CIDA-accredited program prepares students for entry-level interior design practice, for advanced study, and to apply for membership in professional interior design organizations.

This program is listed on the Association of Registered Interior Designers of Ontario (ARIDO) and the Interior Designers of Canada's (IDC) list of recognized interior design programs.

Graduates of advanced diploma programs in interior design can apply to transfer credits and pursue the Bachelor of Interior Design degree.
