Software engineering brings together the disciplines of computer science and information technology. 

The Massey Bachelor of Information Sciences (Software Engineering) gives you a highly-practical and sought-after qualification that is practice-focused and industry-relevant.

Studying software engineering will see you gain the knowledge, tools and practical skills to be able to design, construct, test and maintain large software applications.

The Bachelor of Information Sciences (Software Engineering) is a joint major which means that you will study aspects of both computer science and information technology.

Your learning will focus on:

  • the design and construction of large software applications
  • both soft and hard software development skills
  • the technical knowledge of computer programming from computer science combined with the design and team skills of information technology.

Create real applications, while you study

An exciting part of the joint major is the team project in the third year, when you will work together with other students to create a new application.

You can change your major within the degree up until the end of your first year.

Note: July start will take 3.5 years to complete.

Academic background and requirement

To be admitted to an undergraduate qualification, applicants will need a minimum level of academic achievement from school, or another university or tertiary institution

The specific level depends on which country or region of the world they are from.

China:

  • Senior High School graduation plus successful completion of one year of bachelor's-level study from a recognized institution; or
  • Successful completion of a two-year diploma, or a minimum of two years out of a three-year diploma from a recognized institution; or
  • Completed Gaokao with a tier-one score from the related province

India: 

  • All India Senior School Certificate (AISSC) Year 12 or Indian School Certificate (ISC) Year 12, with an overall average of 75% and a minimum of 60% in English; or
  • Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSC) – State Board Examination in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Gujurat, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and West Bengal, with:
    • an overall average of 85% or higher (with no less than four academic subjects), with
    • a minimum of 70% or above in English.
