Swinburne offers two types of English language courses: General English and English for Academic Purposes.

General English is designed to improve your language skills for day-to-day situations. It can also prepare you for further English language studies.

English for Academic Purposes is designed to teach you the language skills needed to study at university. 

It can help you meet the minimum English language entry requirements for entry to your chosen course at Swinburne.

Academic background and requirement

Standard entry 

  • a Bachelor of Engineering or a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) degree* (minimum four years of full time study) in an approved cognate field, or
  • a Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma of Engineering degree in an approved cognate field following on from a four-year Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) degree, or
  • a qualification deemed to be equivalent to any of the above

* Applicants with a recognised Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) degree in an approved cognate field may be eligible for advanced standing.
