Combining Anthropology and Archaeology gives you a unique skill set to understand contemporary and past human society.
Anthropology seeks to understand similarities and differences across diverse human societies to learn about what it means to be human.
You will be introduced to diverse global cultures, focusing on understanding our own lives' social and cultural experiences.
You will delve into critical questions about society’s most pressing issues, such as religious and cultural conflict, gender discrimination, racism, food security and other social inequalities.
Your studies in anthropology include opportunities to practice key methods of ethnography, undertake specialised courses in religion, medical anthropology, and food and culture, and experience hands-on and applied work in museum and heritage studies.
Archaeology can shed light on some of the most intriguing issues regarding our human past: the colonisation of the New World, migration out of Africa, Old World globalisation and human-environment interaction.
With opportunities for hands-on archaeological training, including field methods, laboratory analysis and project design, and exploring the complexity of how people lived and interacted with one another throughout history.
History provides the foundations for interpreting the past and understanding how the past has been reconstructed and debated.
As a discipline that intersects across the humanities and social sciences, History will enable you to develop skills in research, critical analysis and methodology, persuasive argument, and communication and written expression.
At the University of Southern Queensland, you will explore evidence from the past and our contemporary times to investigate the origins of fundamental issues relevant to us today – race relations, slavery, revolutions, nationalism, women’s experience, culture and ethnicity, social movements, globalisation, politics, war and genocide, and historiography.
