Overview

Bachelor of Science in Nursing

Thompson Rivers University School of Nursing (SON) has a rich history of providing nursing education over the past 35-plus years.

A significant emphasis in the program is that the graduates make a positive difference in the health and well-being of all people.

Upon completing the BScN Program, graduates are eligible to write the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX).

The BScN is a four-year program of studies to prepare students to be competent nurses in various healthcare practice agencies (Institutional, Community and International) and with people with various health concerns with diverse social and economic backgrounds.

The BScN program entails eight academic semesters starting each September for 80 students.

The practice courses involve various shifts (days/evenings/nights) through the week and weekends, along with out-of-town placements that are required for all students.

TRU Williams Lake campus offers the BScN program Year 1 and 2 only, as Year 3 and 4 are then completed in Kamloops.

You submit only one TRU application for BScN admission either to the Kamloops campus or the Williams Lake campus.

Applicants will be required to complete an online situational judgement test

This test assesses non-cognitive skills and interpersonal characteristics that are believed to be important for successful students and graduates of the program and will complement the other tools the university use for applicant screening (i.e., GPA).

Language pathway (conditional offer) is available
Eligible to apply without language certificate

Each of the five levels of the EAP program takes one semester to complete.

Upon arrival at TRU, students with no official test score will take an English Placement Test (EPT).

They will be placed in the appropriate level of English language study as indicated in the chart.

If a student has an official test score, they may choose to enter ESAL or discipline-specific academic courses without taking the TRU English Placement Test.

The real TRU advantage is that you can take undergraduate courses while developing your English Language skills.
