Overview

Bachelor of Communication (Writing and Publishing)

The Bachelor of Communication (Writing and Publishing) at UTS is an industry-led course designed and taught by a team of award-winning published authors, editors, scholars, and industry professionals.

Writing and Publishing builds students’ knowledge of Australian and global publishing contexts and writing and storytelling across various formats, like fiction and nonfiction, screenwriting, digital content, and games.

Students also develop strengths in critical thinking, research, editing, publishing, and storytelling in broader contexts – all transferable skills to various industries and careers.

Students engage in interactive classes led by skilled practitioners to hone their skills.

Subjects often rely on workshopping, with students learning key concepts, applying these to their writing, and collaborating with other students to provide and receive feedback.

In this way, the course gives students a brilliant opportunity to be part of a unique writer’s studio and develop their craft. Students finish with a folio of works covering essential forms and genres.

Industrial training/professional practice

Students participate in two Work-Integrated Learning subjects.

In the second year of their degree, they edit and produce a literary journal in a simulated work environment, experiencing each stage of the publication process first-hand.

In their third year, students undertake an inquiry-based project that investigates current writing and publishing issues with the input of industry mentors.

As writers in their final year, they develop an extended piece of creative writing in a form or genre of their choice.

Bridging courses help prepare you for university studies and learning in the university environment.

Subjects taught in bridging courses do not carry any credit towards your degree but will help you prepare for first-year university subjects.

This may include students enrolling in science courses or other areas of study such as engineering, business, nursing, health, architecture, education, and information technology.

UTS Foundation Studies

If you don't meet the admission requirements for this course, there may be alternative pathways to help you gain admission.

If you’re an international student looking for a university preparation program, UTS Foundation Studies is designed to help you take your next step into Australian university study.
