Language pathway (conditional offer) is available

If you are unable to provide proof of language proficiency you may still be considered if you meet all other admission requirements. In this case, you’ll complete UVic’s University Admission Preparation (UAP) course. 

Your prospective academic unit must be willing to admit you under this condition. You must complete the UAP with a grade of at least 80%.

UAP is a 12-week program offered in January, April and September. It is also offered in an intensive four-week format every summer.

To study in this program, you must have a minimum of one of the following exam scores:

  • IELTS overall score of 6 or higher with a minimum score of 5.5 in each skill area (R/L/S/W)
  • iBT TOEFL score of 79 or higher with no section less than 17 (R/L/S/W)
  • CAEL 60 with no subscore less than 50
  • Passing Grade (80%) for level 570 Academic in the Intensive English (ELPI) Program
  • Passing Grade (80%) for level 570 General in the Intensive English (ELPI) Program, with a passing grade on the UAP writing test

Academic background and requirement

Applicants to a Master's program should have a Major or Honours undergraduate degree in Computer Science/Computer Engineering/Software Engineering (or equivalent) or a Major or Honours degree in Mathematics with an emphasis on Computer Science

A minimum of B+ (6.0/9.0) is required for courses taken in the last two years.
