The Master of Social Work Advanced (MSWA) program is grounded in the university's commitment to socially-just social work.
This program is designed to broaden your understanding of the social, cultural, political and practical implications of social work practice.
The program begins with an introduction on-campus and the rest of the program is completed via distance education. You can choose to write a thesis or complete an advanced practicum placement of 450 hours.

If you are unable to provide proof of language proficiency you may still be considered if you meet all other admission requirements. In this case, you’ll complete UVic’s University Admission Preparation (UAP) course.
Your prospective academic unit must be willing to admit you under this condition. You must complete the UAP with a grade of at least 80%.
UAP is a 12-week program offered in January, April and September. It is also offered in an intensive four-week format every summer.
To study in this program, you must have a minimum of one of the following exam scores:
Applicants to this program should hold a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW). Applicants must also have a minimum of 3000 hours of human services experience as of the application deadline.
