Overview

Bachelor of Information Technology

The information technology industry is central to how we work, learn, play, communicate, and socialise. 

Through Deakin's Bachelor of Information Technology, you'll gain the essential skills and experience required to embark on a career in IT while developing in-depth knowledge in a specialised area of your choosing, such as cloud computing, game development, or cyber security.

This course will allow you to explore and experiment in programming, networking, entrepreneurship, and user-centred design

You’ll undertake a specialised capstone project and access co-working spaces, enabling you to collaborate with like-minded peers and kick-start your professional network. 

An Honours year is available for high-achieving students interested in undertaking a focused research project.

Choosing a major is not compulsory.

Work experience

This course includes a compulsory work placement where you must undertake at least 100 hours in industry, providing professional work experience with an approved host organisation.

Elective units may also provide additional opportunities for work-integrated learning experiences.

Academic background and requirement

Current or recent Year 12

If you're currently studying Year 12 or completed Year 12 in the last two years, you will need to meet all the following criteria to be considered for admission to this degree:

Year 12 prerequisite subjects

  • Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 25 in English EAL (English as an Additional Language) or at least 20 in English other than EAL

 You may be considered for admission to this degree based on other qualifications as follows:

  • Higher education study
  • Polytechnic study
  • Work and life experience

 

  • China:

Complete foundation studies and/or a diploma program at Deakin College or one of Deakin's TAFE partners.

Australian Foundation Program:       65%

Note: Equivalent to an Australian Year 12 certificate.

Foundation Program:

The Deakin College Foundation Program is equivalent to upper secondary school (Year 12) and university foundation programs. 

It aims to prepare you for further study in a Deakin College Diploma or entry into the first year of a selected Deakin University bachelor's degree.

Diploma of Information Technology 

The Diploma of Information Technology can gain you entry into the second year of a Deakin University bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, Data Science, or Software Engineering.
