Graduate as an industry-ready civil engineer by studying Deakin's Bachelor of Civil Engineering (Honours). 

You’ll combine contemporary theory with hands-on projects to develop the skills needed to confidently design, construct and maintain the built infrastructure systems that are vital in our day-to-day lives.

In this Engineers Australia-accredited course, you’ll learn how to apply scientific and engineering principles to address complex problems and develop innovative solutions that are beneficial to organizations and the community.

You’ll gain a deep understanding of the way infrastructure works, not just through textbooks, but by applying your skills in multi-million dollar engineering facilities. 

Work on industry-relevant projects and undertake work placements to gain valuable real-world experience and build your professional networks.

Work experience

Through SEL703 Professional Practice, you’ll gain industry experience by completing at least 30 to 60 days of practical work experience in an engineering workplace with assessment tasks designed to develop and enhance your understanding of: 

The engineering profession, professional practice and continuing professional development, possible career outcomes, and the opportunity to establish valuable professional networks.

Academic background and requirement

Current or recent Year 12

If you're currently studying Year 12 or completed Year 12 in the last two years, you will need to meet all the following criteria to be considered for admission to this degree:

Year 12 prerequisite subjects

  • Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 25 in English EAL (English as an Additional Language) or at least 20 in English other than EAL

 You may be considered for admission to this degree based on other qualifications as follows:

  • Higher education study
  • Polytechnic study
  • Work and life experience

Complete foundation studies and/or a diploma program at Deakin College or one of Deakin's TAFE partners.

Australian Foundation Program:       65%

Foundation Program:

The Deakin College Foundation Program is equivalent to upper secondary school (Year 12) and university foundation programs. 

It aims to prepare you for further study in a Deakin College Diploma or entry into the first year of a selected Deakin University bachelor's degree.

Diploma of Engineering

Deakin College’s Diploma of Engineering is a broad introductory course that will prepare you with the skills and knowledge for a full spectrum of opportunities in the field.

Choose to specialise in civil, electrical and electronics, environmental, mechanical, or mechatronics engineering when you enter the second year of your Deakin University bachelor's degree.
