Renewable Energy and Electrical Power

Learn to transition electrical power networks to renewable sources, meeting the challenges and opportunities associated with the integration of renewable generation technologies. 

You’ll become an expert in technologies and trends in power transmission (including HVDC technologies) with a focus on key contemporary energy storage technologies and their importance in evolving energy systems. 

You’ll also learn about emerging issues and technologies associated with future transition of the power sector.

You’ll graduate with the ability to improve society in areas such as electricity, construction, mechanics and design. You’ll develop skills in solving contemporary engineering problems by using modern techniques. 

Your studies will also see you design and develop plans, systems and processes for the community, keeping in mind ethical and legislative considerations.

The course also gives you the opportunity to undertake work placement within the local and interstate engineering partners. This gives you the experience you need to advance your career.

A work placement unit is included and must be completed in order to meet the Engineers Australia Professional Engineer Stage 1 competency standard.

You will also undertake 50 credit points in engineering project as a capstone to this degree.

Academic background and requirement

  • A Bachelor degree in a science based discipline with sufficient numerical skills to undertake the MProfEng (Specialisation) course; or
  • A Bachelor degree in Engineering (Non-Washington Accord) or
  • A Bachelor degree in Engineering majoring in a different specialisation than that to be undertaken under the MProfEng (Specialisaton).

Candidates who are able to demonstrate a minimum of 12 weeks practical experience in an engineering environment outside a university where they have been exposed to professional engineering practice will be granted an exemption for ENG700.

Advanced standing for the first year of the MProfEng (Specialisation) may be granted for suitably qualified candidates. Granting of additional exemptions in years 2 and 3 may be considered where applicable.

Students who have completed a Bachelor of Engineering from an Institution accredited under the Washington Accord cannot enroll in the MProfEng (Specialisation) for which they already hold the specialisation.
