Master of International Development

Despite the efforts of multilateral organisations, governments and philanthropists, more than 700 million people (around 10 per cent of the world’s population) still live in extreme poverty – often without adequate clean water, food or access to healthcare.

If you're passionate about supporting our world's most vulnerable communities, La Trobe's Master of International Development will give you strong foundations to advance your career in the humanitarian and development sector.

Build a meaningful career and learn how to create sustainable, positive change in areas where we need it most. 

You'll learn how to build strong relationships in the development sector and have the opportunity to undertake an internship or placement with a local or international development organisation, helping you to develop your skills and networks further.

Students are to select one specialisation after they'll start their studying:

Advanced research, Community inclusion and public health, Economic Management, Leadership and practice, Security and governance

You'll learn the following:

  • How to design and deliver development projects
  • Policy and practice frameworks
  • How to drive social change
  • Development sector best practice

Elective placement opportunities (Work Based Learning)

During this course, you will have processes the opportunity to participate in a Work Based Learning (WBL) placement experience designed to allow you to extend your formal academic learning beyond the classroom.

Academic background and requirement

Successful completion of an Australian bachelor's degree (or equivalent).
