Master of Music in Conducting

The Degree of Master of Music is normally completed in two years of full-time study. Conducting. Students may focus in choral conducting, instrumental conducting, or a combination of choral and instrumental conducting. Conducting majors have the option of working principally with instrumental ensembles, principally with vocal ensembles, or a balanced combination of both. Our conducting majors get regular podium time with the School’s choirs and instrumental ensembles, as well as access to the unique resources of the musical community in St. John’s, affording a wide range of conducting opportunities.

3. In order to demonstrate your abilities and musicianship, you may wish to also submit video material of a performance in which you play your
instrument or sing.
4. The video should be approximately 15-20 minutes in length and, if possible, consist of a rehearsal and performance.

Students who have completed secondary schooling, an undergraduate program, or a graduate program at a recognized institution where the language of instruction is English will normally not require an English proficiency test. If the institution is located outside of Canada and/or the language of instruction is not clearly indicated on the official transcript, applicants are advised to provide a letter from their university stating the language of instruction.

Academic background and requirement

Applicants for admission to the Master of Music program will normally hold a Bachelor of Music or equivalent from a recognized university or conservatory. Preference will be given to applicants who hold first class standing in their undergraduate program.
