Master of Computer Science by Coursework

The Master of Computer Science by Coursework (MCSC) program at the University of New Brunswick provides advanced education at the graduate level to students who want to pursue their computer science education further but are not interested in research. 

It enables students to explore computer science topics more deeply and learn current advanced techniques. 

It is a suitable program for people from the IT industry who want to upgrade their skills, develop and demonstrate their capabilities for working at a more advanced level, explore advanced interests, and improve their credentials.

The program consists of a minimum of 10 graduate and undergraduate courses. 

This degree program can also include a co-op designation, attained on completing two graduate co-op terms successfully.

  • International students who have been conditionally accepted to undergraduate or graduate programs at UNB Saint John — or who plan to apply — but who need to improve their English as a condition of their acceptance
  • Students who have been conditionally accepted to the New Brunswick Community College (NBCC) but who need to provide proof of English proficiency before beginning their studies at NBCC.

Here are the test score requirements for each level of the EAP program:

  • Level 3 (High Beginner): IELTS 3.0 – 4.0 |Duolingo 55-65
  • Level 4 (Intermediate I): IELTS 4.5 – 5.0 | Duolingo 70-80
  • Level 5 (Intermediate II): IELTS 5.5 | Duolingo 85-90

Academic background and requirement

  • For Master’s Programs: An undergraduate degree in Computer Science (or equivalent), with a minimum GPA of B+.
  • All Master's applicants should have studied the following core areas of computer science: software engineering, data structures, operating systems, algorithm design and computer architecture.
