Master of Engineering in Electrical and Computer Engineering

The MEng at University of New Brunswick (UNB) is intended for students who wish to study one or more areas of electrical engineering at an advanced level without the necessity of engaging in a research program. 

The graduate programs in Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) attract students from all over the globe; approximately 26 countries have been represented by our graduate students over the past decade. 

The department endeavours to create a warm, friendly, and collaborative atmosphere in which graduate students are encouraged to develop their full potential.

The recent graduates have moved on to successful and rewarding careers at other universities, research institutions, power utilities, IT companies and numerous others ranging from local start-ups to large multi-national corporations.

Language pathway (conditional offer) is available
  • International students who have been conditionally accepted to undergraduate or graduate programs at UNB Saint John — or who plan to apply — but who need to improve their English as a condition of their acceptance
  • Students who have been conditionally accepted to the New Brunswick Community College (NBCC) but who need to provide proof of English proficiency before beginning their studies at NBCC.

Here are the test score requirements for each level of the EAP program:

  • Level 3 (High Beginner): IELTS 3.0 – 4.0 |Duolingo 55-65
  • Level 4 (Intermediate I): IELTS 4.5 – 5.0 | Duolingo 70-80
  • Level 5 (Intermediate II): IELTS 5.5 | Duolingo 85-90

Note: Duolingo with a minimum overall score of 120


Academic background and requirement

  1. Applicants should hold an undergraduate degree from an accredited university with a minimum average of 80% or First Class standing.
  2. In addition, PhD applicants are expected to hold a Master’s degree from an accredited university.

However, please understand that some faculty find it difficult to respond to the large number of email inquiries they receive and prefer to concentrate their efforts on reviewing and assessing the completed applications that have been forwarded to them.
