Child and Youth Care (Bachelor of Arts)

Learn how to support children, youth and families as a professional child and youth care worker through the Bachelor of Arts in Child and Youth Care at Douglas College. 

You'll take three practicums during your degree, with the third practicum being eight months long in a supervised child and youth care setting.

You'll graduate ready to take on team leader or supervisory positions in your community. 

The College's grads find work in settings including schools, community centres, parent-child education settings, residential settings and programs for street-involved youth, addictions services.

Surveys show that 94 per cent of Child and Youth Care degree graduates are working in the field after graduation.

Academic background and requirement

  • High school graduation OR 19 years of age by the end of the first month of studies in the semester of entry to Douglas College; and
  • A minimum overall grade average of 60% (or equivalent) in the final year of high school; and
  • A minimum final grade of “C” or 60% (or equivalent) in Grade 11 Mathematics or equivalent for most programs
