Bachelor of Arts - Child and Youth Care

The 4-year Bachelor of Arts in Child and Youth Care (BA CYC) Degree Program prepares graduates for challenging work supporting children, youth and families as professional child and youth care workers, or for advanced positions in the child and youth care field. career transfer pathways Surveys show that almost 100 percent of the College Child and Youth Care graduates are working in the field within 3 months of graduation (those not working were continuing their education). 

Child and youth care practitioners work in schools, community centers, parent-child education settings, residential settings, programs for street-involved youth, addictions services, and a variety of other settings. Diploma graduates are employed in front-line positions working directly with children and youth in these settings. Degree graduates find additional employment options in government settings and team leader or supervisory positions in community settings.

Required documents

In addition to the General College Admission Requirements, admission to the BA in CYC requires the following:

19 years of age by November 1st of intake year
60 hours of work or volunteer experience (click link to download form) in a CYC setting – hours MUST be completed prior to mandatory selection/orientation weekend
official high school or post-secondary transcripts including a "C" or higher in Grade 12 English or equivalent
A current resume,
attendance at a MANDATORY selection/orientation weekend. 

Academic Requirements:
Undergraduate (diploma and associate degree) programs:

High school graduation OR minimum 17 years of age by the end of the first month of studies in the semester of entry to Douglas College; and
Minimum overall grade average of 60% (or equivalent) in the final year of high school; and
Minimum final grade of “C” or 60% (or equivalent) in Grade 11 Mathematics or equivalent for most programs

We offer opportunities for students to satisfy our English Language Proficiency admission requirements by improving their English skills either through Douglas College's English Language Learning & Acquisition Program (ELLA), or at one of our internationally-acclaimed ESL partners through articulated pathways.

These pathways allow students to seamlessly enter Douglas College, without having to take an entrance exam, or provide TOEFL, IELTS or EIKEN results.

Duolingo: Minimum overall score of 110. Official test scores must be sent directly to Douglas College.
