As a student in the English program at Manitoba university, you will explore an array of literary genres and develop creative and interpretive skills.
The program provides comprehensive historical coverage to expand students' writing skills, and analysis and argumentation to express ideas clearly and effectively.
English literature courses cover literature from the medieval period to the present and provide instruction in theoretical approaches and critical methods.
Courses in film, theatre and creative writing are also offered.
The Faculty of Arts offers three-year and four-year undergraduate degree options in English.

The English Language Centre (ELC) at the University of Manitoba (UM) offers the full-time Intensive Academic English Program (IAEP).
If the student does not meet the English Language Proficiency requirement for their program of interest, the student can take advantage of this program to obtain the Academic English language skills needed to complete a degree.
If you have already achieved one of these minimum test scores, you may be eligible to enter Level 5 of the IAEP directly:
An equivalent minimum average of 70% over the following senior level courses, with no less than 60% in each course: • English • Mathematics • A third academic course • A fourth academic course
