Overview

Bachelor of Engineering (Honours)(Mechanical)

The Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) at the University of Adelaide strongly focuses on design with a design and build project in the second year, followed by a more advanced project in the third year and a large design/research project in the final year.

This program provides a core understanding of mechanical disciplines and problem-solving skills.

The program also develops written and oral communication skills and familiarity with project management.

All Engineering students will complete a common first year before branching out into their disciplines, majors and/or a choice of thematic minors.

The first two years include mathematics and physics with an introduction to the basic principles of design, structural analysis, thermodynamics, materials, fluid mechanics, control and computer programming, complemented by laboratory and project work.

In the third year, courses are extended to develop a more complex understanding of these fields coupled with a design project, allowing students to prepare for the final year.

The fourth year allows for some technical specialisation through the requirement to complete elective courses and project work.

Students can choose to study majors in Aerospace Engineering, Defence Systems, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronic and Robotics Engineering, Medical Technologies, Renewable Energy, Smart Technologies and Sports Engineering.

Industry Placement

Students are required to complete eight weeks of approved practical experience.
