Overview

Bachelor of Arts - Geography

Geography is the study of places, exploring both the physical features of the earth and the relationship between people and their environments.

At Mount Allison University, the Geography program explores courses in both human and physical geography and is designed for students interested in the study of social sciences at various spatial and temporal scales.

The Geography program develops an understanding of:

  • the principles of ecological and physical systems
  • the cultural, social, economic and political forces acting on those systems
  • the social implications of environmental change, and the application of planning theory and methodology to build healthy, more resilient communities.

Geography students take a combination of courses in both Environmental Science and Environmental Studies, and options about planning, urban studies, and environmental, and social justice.

Geography is available as:

  • BA major (60 credits)
  • BA honours (72 credits)
  • Minor in any degree (24 credits)

Experiential learning opportunities are offered in every degree.

Language pathway (conditional offer) is available

DUOLINGO English Test: 110

If you meet Mount Allison's academic requirements, but don't meet our English proficiency requirements, you may be offered conditional admission.

If you're offered conditional admission, you can enroll in one of our English pathway programs designed for students who need extra time and training to meet our English proficiency requirements, and who would like to benefit from additional transition time and academic preparation before full-time study.

There are two program options to help you meet the requirements, depending on your level of English:

  • English Summer Pathway Program (June-August)
This program is offered during the summer. It includes classes in English and academic skills plus cultural trips and activities.
  • English Academic Bridging Program (EAB) (September-May)
This program is offered during the academic year. You'll be enrolled as a full-time Mount Allison student. You'll take three regular Mount Allison courses each term and two EAB courses, in English and academic skills.

Once you successfully complete one of Mount Allison's English language programs, you will get unconditional admission to Mount Allison (if you meet our academic requirements). No additional TOEFL or IELTS tests will be required.
