Political Science provides a strong foundation in Canadian and international politics, comparative politics, and political theory.
The study of politics examines the nature and workings of power, state, and government; the rights and duties of citizenship; the limits and possibilities of collective political action; and the social, economic, and cultural formations that shape the life of the political community.
The scope of inquiry is local, national, and international; it includes the empirical analysis of individuals, groups, institutions, and processes and the investigation of long-standing philosophical questions concerning human nature, freedom, democracy, and justice.
At Mount Allison University, the Political Science program is organized into four main subfields.

The program offers students the opportunity to gain a strong foundation in all four subfields and to combine empirical, practical, and theoretical approaches in each year of study.
In addition to courses in Canadian politics, you may choose specialized area courses in Africa, Europe, the Middle East, and the United States.
If you wish to pursue a more intensive concentration in one particular subfield, you can also take Canadian studies, international relations, history, and philosophy courses.

If you meet Mount Allison's academic requirements, but don't meet our English proficiency requirements, you may be offered conditional admission.
If you're offered conditional admission, you can enroll in one of our English pathway programs designed for students who need extra time and training to meet our English proficiency requirements, and who would like to benefit from additional transition time and academic preparation before full-time study.
There are two program options to help you meet the requirements, depending on your level of English:
Once you successfully complete one of Mount Allison's English language programs, you will get unconditional admission to Mount Allison (if you meet our academic requirements). No additional TOEFL or IELTS tests will be required.

Regular admission: To be considered for admission, a minimum final grade of 65% or the equivalent is required in all university-preparatory courses reviewed.
Early admission: Applicants may be considered for early admission based on their final grade 11 transcripts. A minimum admissions average of 80% is required for consideration.
China requirements:
Students studying at vocational/technical high schools may be considered if they have strong grades and their educational background is relevant to their intended field of study.
