Overview

Bachelor of Arts - Geocomputing

Geocomputing is an applied program that combines the theory and practice of computer science and geography.

Geocomputing offers a unique way to combine geographical and environmental skills with training in computer science.

The program gives students the expertise to study and understand spatial dimensions of social and environmental problems, such as minimizing environmental impacts and identifying critical habitats.

At Mount Allison University, Geocomputing combines the theory and practice of computing and geography, offering students a new way to look at the world.

Students in Geocomputing take courses in computer science, environmental science, and environmental studies, with spatial computing (geographic information systems) at heart.

In Computer Science, you'll look at subjects like:

  • programming techniques
  • algorithms
  • discrete structures
  • data structures
  • database systems
  • object-oriented design and methodology
  • computers and society

In Environment and Geography, you'll look at subjects like:

  • geographic information systems (GIS)
  • the physical environment
  • the human environment
  • data analysis
  • resources management and environmental policies

Students complete an applied capstone project that integrates both fields in their final year.

Language pathway (conditional offer) is available

DUOLINGO English Test: 110

If you meet Mount Allison's academic requirements, but don't meet our English proficiency requirements, you may be offered conditional admission.

If you're offered conditional admission, you can enroll in one of our English pathway programs designed for students who need extra time and training to meet our English proficiency requirements, and who would like to benefit from additional transition time and academic preparation before full-time study.

There are two program options to help you meet the requirements, depending on your level of English:

  • English Summer Pathway Program (June-August)
This program is offered during the summer. It includes classes in English and academic skills plus cultural trips and activities.
  • English Academic Bridging Program (EAB) (September-May)
This program is offered during the academic year. You'll be enrolled as a full-time Mount Allison student. You'll take three regular Mount Allison courses each term and two EAB courses, in English and academic skills.

Once you successfully complete one of Mount Allison's English language programs, you will get unconditional admission to Mount Allison (if you meet our academic requirements). No additional TOEFL or IELTS tests will be required.
